What To Eat With Valentine Cake Mix Cookies

Since these are simple cookies, you can eat them just like they are! But if you want to take them over the top, add some ice cream in between two for a really special treat!

And of course you could eat them with a glass a milk or go really really over the top with these M&M hot cocoa bombs!

And then of course you could pair these with some strawberries too.

With all of that out of the way, let’s get into how to make cookies with cake mix (15.25 oz cake mix box)…

The entire recipe is located below in a simple-to-use and easy format. The outcome will be the perfect cookies for Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Cake Mix Cookie Ingredients

The great thing about using a cake mix is that it cuts down on the steps! Since the cake mix already has the dry ingredients in it, that just leaves a few other wet ingredients to add. You’re going to need:

  • White Cake Mix
  • Avocado Oil (or Vegetable oil)
  • Eggs
  • Heart Sprinkles (I use these)
  • Valentine’s M&Ms

White Cake Mix

The most neutral cake mix for this recipe is going to be a white cake mix. That will give you the prettiest contrast between the cookie and the sprinkles and M&Ms. If you want to use a different cake mix, though, you can! Any flavor will work for this recipe. Chocolate, Red Velvet and anything else would still taste great! It’s up to you.

Avocado Oil

I personally love to cook with Avocado Oil since we try to avoid seed oils. Did you know that Avocado oil is actually made from the avocado fruit surrounding the pit – not the pit itself?

Anyway, if you don’t have avocado oil, that’s fine! You can use vegetable oil or coconut oil if that’s your preference.

Valentine’s Day Cookie FAQs

How do I know when cake mix cookies are done baking?

The best way to know that cookies are done baking is to look at the edges. They should be golden brown coloring, indicating that they’re done.
You can also look at the top of the cookies. They should start to lose their shine if they’re done or close to being done.

How many cookies does a box of cake mix make?

This Valentine cake mix cookies recipe makes 24 delicious cookies. You can double it by grabbing another box of cake mix at the store and the rest of the needed ingredients.

Can I make these cookies in different shapes?

These are essentially drop cookies, so you won’t be able to shape them before you bake them BUT if you’re quick, you can cut them into shapes right after they come out of the oven. While they are still warm, very carefully use a cookie cutter over each cookie and wiggle it slightly to separate the cut out from the cookie. Then let them cool. When using this method you need to make sure that you are using a cookie cutter that is smaller than the cookie and you need to make sure the cookie isn’t over cooked and still warm. It should be soft.

How do I make my M&Ms picture perfect in these cake mix Valentine cookies?

When placing M&Ms into your unbaked cookie dough, you can’t really predict how they are going to look after it’s done baking. I normally don’t care too much about that, but if you do, there’s an easy solution! Mix about 80% of your M&Ms into your cookie batter and keep the rest for later. Then, as soon as your cookies are done baking, just press your M&Ms into the soft cookies where you want them. Make sure to do this right away and to not over cook your cookies.

As you can see, it’s not a hard process. Follow the directions below to get started. Learn how to make cookies with cake mix (the 15.25 oz boxes)!

Preheat the oven

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Add parchment paper

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to make clean-up a breeze. You can grease the cookie pan if you don’t want to use parchment paper. Don’t use wax paper – I think everyone’s made that mistake at least once!

Mix the ingredients

Add all the ingredients except the M&Ms and sprinkles to a large bowl and stir to make the cookie dough. You don’t have to use a mixer for this.
