I did the dog leash top assist to my NB today, (a big nod to doane2u!) but with a slight modification. Since I have a mesh windblocker, I've been restricted to getting out of the car to close the top (no way to reach the handle over that!), and running a strap over the windblocker would look wired and most likely damage the windblocker's frame.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/rlkeely/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090601_zps0zmrzyup.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/rlkeely/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090601_zps0zmrzyup.jpg.html)

I decided to attach it at the side. I've been playing with closing the top from the side only, and I can't detect any untoward torque that I think would cause any problems. So, I got a black leash, trimmed it to length and punched 2 holes in the end. One hole for the screw on the latch and one for the pin.

With the top open, the strap tucks neatly behind the seatbelt bracket. Out of the way, but easy to reach when I need to.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/rlkeely/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090211_zpsivhjte9z.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/rlkeely/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090211_zpsivhjte9z.jpg.html)

Top up, the strap runs above the window and the end tucks into the top frame.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/rlkeely/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090430_zpsvwd2u3vz.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/rlkeely/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160912_090430_zpsvwd2u3vz.jpg.html)

Raising the top is really easy and having the strap bolted under the latch doesn't seem to have any effect on the position of the top when it's closed.

Nice idea!! Since I installed my roll bar, I've had to get out to put the top up due to poor angles. I'd originally thought that the double hoop would've allowed raising the top...didn't work out that way. Then I made a windblocker out of Lexan (8" tall) and that really put and end to thoughts of in-car top lifting. I will have to explore similar means on my car!

Last night:
I drove many miles of dark back roads, and spent much time shining my headlights against a cinder block wall. NO!!! It wasn't just to eargasm over the 1.8L's 4~7k rpm Siren song. I was deciphering headlights.

It took some time (all damned night), but I'm finally (mostly) happy with the aim of my headlights, and (for now) my bulb selection. The sharp cutoff of the NB2's projector lenses makes it VERY CLEAR when your lights are aimed incorrectly, but it makes "perfect" aim an almost impossible goal. I have no desire to "dazzle" oncoming drivers, nor do I wish to collide with any road hazards (a a pile of plastic car parts which were ripped off and left behind when someone hit a porcupine and drove off without cleaning upin my case, or "a deer" if you need something a little more generic).

Today:

I cleaned porcupine quills out of my carpet.

I pulled out the (remains of the) Kensun HID "upgrade" kit, and put my old 9006 bulbs back in. The Kensuns are junk. After three days and two nights, the arc never stabilized on either bulb, so they were dim, blue and flickery. I ordered a set of 9012 HIR2 bulbs instead. Those should be much better than stock, but they only cost about $35 for the set. I may order some Morimotos at some point, but not now.

I installed yellow H1 bulbs in my fog lamps. I don't yet know if they will help, but they don't hurt. I'll know next time its foggy, and I'll report back. I don't usually drive with my fogs on.

I finished wiring in my passenger side USB charger (in support of my passenger side cell holder efforts). I am VERY happy with the finished results. I will try to post a pic tomorrow.

This Evening:
I had a drive with my new light setup: 6006 low beams, 9011 high beams, Yellow H1 fog lamps. Visibility was good (not great) with low beams. It was not improved much by the fog lamps, but it never has been, and that's not what they're for anyway. Visibility was spectacular with the 9011 high beams.
If
I also had a look at my new yellow H1s from outside the car also. These look pretty good, and if I cared about how my fog lamps looked to oncoming traffic it would be reason enough to keep them (Translation: they are bitchun as F, and you can have them when you unscrew them from my cold, dead fasteners!).

I read somewhere that there is no way to adjust the fog lamps, but that's not true. There is a knob for vertical adjustment. The lights are held in with four screws, so shims could also be used to aim them. I'm going to shine them against a wall tomorrow night and see what they look like.

I started the first steps of my center console delete/dashboard remodel. I removed the double din stereo and moved the AC controls up to the middle slot in the center stack. The cables are a tight fit, but everything works just fine. That was my chief concern that would dictate whether any of the rest of the project would even be possible.

I test fit the new Alpine head unit, just o see how it will look. I'll do a temporary install later today, and the full install with amp, subwoofer and new speakers next week. I received my 2nd radio bezel, so I'll chop and combine the two bezels to make the new one today as well. (I'm kinda going to miss those window switches. I really like how they turned out.)

I installed 9011/9012's also months ago, the low beams are most notable for me, I'd say 50% brighter than the 9006. Great improvement at low cost especially if you have to replace a 9006 anyway. The highs really help me spot deer on side of the road on twisty/hilly roads.

I'm surprised (and excited) to hear that you think the 9012s made a bigger difference than the 9011s. IIRC, the DOT specs say that the diference between 9005 and 9011 is greater than the diference between 9006 and 9012, and also that 9011 is significantly brighter than 9012. I think the 9011s are an excellent upgrade, and an outstanding value.

Man, I cant wait to try these out!

I also need to post some pics of the car all lit up at night. The yellow fogs look great with the driving lights, and the LED markers. I think it looks fantastic.

Sorry to cary on, BTW. Im a bit of a nerd, and i get a little excited over good lighting.

While I have the leather shifter boot off for my dash project, I just noticed that the rubber upper boot is torn. Im going to pull it off and look at the inner boot, too. Man, not even two years from a shift boot!? Is it normal for these things to wear out that quickly?

30K is about normal, so 2-3 years yeah.

Use the lower shift boot from an NC though. It's about 1/2 the price of a Na/NB version and fits perfectly.

My daily commute is about 169 miles, round trip. So, yeah, that would explain it. Surprising that these parts have such a short service life.

Went to install a set of Coverking seat covers. After trying for a bit, realized that they just won't fit anywhere near as snug as I would want them, so I packed them back up and will be returning them. I'll be on the lookout for other options - I really want cloth, not leather or vinyl, so some of the go-to nicer options are out for me.

I did get an exhaust (NB Speeder) ordered from Enthuza, though, so at least that's a high point today.

Looks like one cone really likes your new spoiler and tagged along for a closer look. I'd like a closer look to, please post some static closer up rear and from drivers seat facing backwards if you would. I'd like to sell my trunk lid with stock spoiler and get a plain one (same color) to install a duckbill. I don't think the duckbills cover the stock mounting holes. I don't know which would be cheaper, having my trunk lid holes sealed/repaint or swapping if I find a same color plain in good condition. Then I gotta decide which duckbill spoiler...

I managed to get my new Alpine head unit installed today. It was more work than I thought it would be. Since I moved the AC controls up, I needed a true single din install kit (not single din plus a pocket), but nobody makes one.

I already love this stereo. The display is beautiful! It has all the features I could ever need. And the display is beautiful! I didn't bother to hook up the microphone or the USB/aux socket, since I'll be pulling the whole dash next week. When I reinstall the dash, I'll take care of those details, plus the amp and subwoofer.

Oh, interesting thing... I had added a manual switch for my power antenna, backseat the previous Sony always had the antenna up when the stereo was powered on. The Alpine only raises the antenna when the radio is being used. When I switch to USB, aux, Bluetooth, etc... the unit lowers the antenna since it isn't needed.

You might look at DashDesigns.com for custom fit seat covers. I've had a set of tan cloth covers from them installed in my '99 for four years and 40,000 miles, and they still fit well and look great. I have no financial interest in DashDesigns.com, just a satisfied customer.

i just returned from an epic, 2,600 mile road trip from St Louis to the Tail of the Dragon, Bootlegger 28 (NC Hwy 28 from Bryson City to Highlands), and the southernmost 200 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, then continuing on to Baltimore for a family visit before returning to St Louis.

Our '99 classic red Miata ran flawlessly, even towing our small trailer through the ToTD at a sporting pace. We enjoyed having our daughter Emily join us in her black '99 for the three days of roadstering through the mountains of NC. This was definitely a repeat bucket-list trip, and one that I'll look forward to doing again.

Got a 2001 power window switch, partly broken, for my 2000 NB10AE.

Luckily, the passenger switch is the same as in mine. Took a while to figure tout how to pull the switches out but eventually I succeeded.

Filled the two button bottoms with silicon grease to match the state I found these in. Clever way to keep the dust out.

Now I have to reverse the pins in the connector.

Also got a couple of clips in the mail, to fix this rattling boot spring and pluck a hole.

If you want them hidden, behind the foglights would probably be a good place. Keeps them out of the water and doesn't block flow to the intercooler/radiator.

MarkEt: how did you do it?

Got a kit from Alta Cuir (leather). Custom color plus black. They have an how to video on YouTube, too.

The custom color was made from a strip I cut off the shift boot, under the console.

253498

(Before !)

253499

After (and before the varnish)

I did the black as well. The varnish is curing. The result is really, really impressive.

https://www.alta-leather.co.uk/en/

I did sand the wheel, to level the leather and remove the peeling off bits. And break the existing varnish. Then used their cleaning product to remove grease and remaining varnish.
Next is the color. It's a resin. It penetrates the leather. Thin layers. Let cure. Repeat.

Then spray-on varnish to make it durable.

The result is stunning. I'm actually a bit worried that it makes the car look older than the wheel 8-)

I have more than enough left to fix the leather parts of the seats. I have to take care of the boot too, but first I have to glue something on its back, there are two tiny holes in it.

I also picked up a bunch of 3rd gen eclipse vents. I got plenty (QTY 13) in-case I screwed up and will probably toss the remaining ones on e-bay.

Also ordered black suede with green stitch e-brake boot and shift boot with a green/black shifter to start to make the interior "my own".

How much did you pay for mirror and will any work or specific one only?

U pull yard so like $10 with the wire harness and button. This one came out of an Oldsmobile Intrigue, 7 pin plug-in.

Unfortunately I was a bit to rough in pulling the mounting button, cracked the windshield....:realmad:

So Safelite will be out Friday to install a new windshield and I'll be able to wrap it up (this mirror does not have temp, does have compass and map lights.

Guess I'll move onto HID retrofit tonight....

In the high ambient temperature we have here, 5's tend to run a tad hot. 6's run the light tan color and 5's tend to run a little white.

Cleaned out the garage today enough the pull the Miata in. Tomorrow starts the interior transformation. All the parchment will go away, to be replaced with black and red.

Along with the color changes, I'm going to sound dampen/heat shield the entire tub, do some custome chopping of the dash, completely eliminate the center console and rebuild the shifter.

If I have time, I'll also install component speakers in the doors, along with an amp and subwoofer.

I sold my roll bar on Saturday! The car has so much more room and visibility while the handling is still dynamite! I really don't have any regrets or concerns getting rid of it.

I then rallycrossed in Nebraska on Sunday! The car is shaping up to be pretty quick for Nationals! I just need to learn to take it easier and hit a lot fewer cones.

Stripping down front clip in preparation for respray and found a couple interesting bits. First was the discovery of broken and repaired parts I didn't know about. Like this running light. Gonna have to figure how best to redo that.
The other thing was finding a new water retention area. On both sides above fender liner, where the liner bends forward, water came out as the clips were released. Note this car has not seen rain for about 3 days. Fortunately the paint there was robust enough to keep it from rusting but to play it safe going forward I made weep holes.

Recently had the head gasket done. Yesterday when I changed to the correct plugs I noticed something different. The plug wires We're set up (left to right when viewed from the front) 3214. I checked the coil plug in's on the back of the coils and the blue band was on the driver side. I don't suppose it makes any difference, but I switched the plug in's to the blue band on the passenger side and the plug wires to 4132. Didn't notice any difference in running or drivability. Any thoughts on this or am I being an old maid?

Almost as a joke I parked with the hot rods, and propped the hood. The Miata got much respect. I was half expecting them to ask me to park with the minivans, and I was fully expecting to take a ribbing for parking an import (& a semi-modern one at that) with these hand built rods, but neither happened. I answered lots of questions, and everyone really liked the paint especially. Everyone seemed to have a son, or a daughter who owns one. Everyone liked my cool breeze scoop, and everyone nodded and said "reliable". It was an awesome experience.

I took a day off to just goof around, but got back to the project today.

I drilled out the spot welds and cut off the center console brackets with an angle grinder. Then I smoothed the area and shot some white primer on the exposed metal. After that, I started laying down the sound damper.

I'm using Balistic brand mat, made by Metra. It gets really great reviews, but its way cheaper than Fatmat or Dynamat. I got half of the car done before lunch.

Then the second half in the afternoon. Working no he garage in 93 degree heat makes for a lot of sweating.

This evening, I finished up the rear wall and deck. I did these actions in patches because I needed to leave the panels removable. Also, for sound de pending, you don't need to do a full coverage job. I did full coverage on the floor pan more for heat than for sound.

Thanks SVpokey! I did double up on the transmission tunnel. I took out the OEM center console quite a while ago... You'd be amazed how much heat that is actually keeping from getting to the driver! Also, before I put the new carpet down, I'm adding a layer of 1/2" thick Dynaliner. Eventually, I'm also going to line the trunk, too. Acceleration is respectable stock, easily tuned for more, corners like none other STOCK, easily improved... and, extremely affordable. Aftermarket support as good as Mustang or Camaro as well. This picture shows just how far I had to disassemble the interior just so I could look at each the sides of the radio and then press down on the tabs while Pops slowly pulled out each side one at a time. Why? Because my cassette player stopped working and I pulled a potential replacement from what was not the world's greatest car...but a Tribute.

https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--wJGMlMdx--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/dmdogid0q5xgaiz8j45u.png

As it turns, the Tribute’s cassette player is IN-OP and my current cassette still works, it just needed to be dusted off inside. Now to order a new mp3-cassette adapter from Amazon and I’ll be getting more miles out of my Miata’s half-decent Bose sound system instead of using my iPod earbuds.

https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--OEhs5SBY--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/zhxdzhfeletcuvokr7ie.png

But, while everything was apart, I went ahead with vacuuming-out the interior and ended up collecting a surprising amount of dust, dirt, and some fine gravel.

https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--LrzSE5gi--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/hicwlaebpj6j3qbg7g6i.png

I also bent these ****ing-annoying metal tabs that hold the radio in place. Hopefully I’ll be able to correctly use the proper Mazda double-din removal prongs to eject this radio in a more painless manner.

https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--RavbYdHH--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_636/oawdjt7mr8hhacnpmgce.png

Also, I bought a second Nardi wooden 5-speed knob. It’s rougher than my pristine, new-in-the-box knob that I absolutely lucked-out on, but I actually want a more beater-friendly knob.

As expected, no two wooden knobs are alike! Mine pristine one has a silver pattern while this newest addition is more golden on top. I’m not sure if that’s due to sun fading or not!

Went through similar scenario today on the '04. CD player had gotten "skippy" and I wanted to upgrade to a HU with a USB port, SAT and NAV anyway.

The right side tabs were sprung beyond where the correct tools would depress them, the tool was going BEHIND the tabs. Wound up popping off the radio's faceplate and using thin screwdrivers to depress the tabs. Not the first time I have heard of this problem.

You should really consider just upgrading to a modern HU with Bluetooth, USB, etc. There are ones for $100 (my current pioneer mechless, no CD for example) that will blow away the stock unit and there is an adapter that plugs right into the stock harness and uses the Bose amps & speakers.

For all the trouble your going through just to add a plug in adapter to a basic radio is a waste of time/$ unless you are dead set to stay stock appearance. There are double DIN and with single DIN there is a handy pocket for wallet, etc that comes stock or aftermarket.

If it runs fine without it there at all, then I imagine it could be cut down to nearly nothing and still provide loads of extra support. It would be nice to be able to reach the filter without climbing through the damn wheel well.

I have shown up with a Shelby GT Mustang and I have shown up with a Miata. The straight line 1/4 mile horsepower junkies ignore my MX 5.... But, the real car guys respect what is a true drivers car. Acceleration is respectable stock, easily tuned for more, corners like none other STOCK, easily improved... and, extremely affordable. Aftermarket support as good as Mustang or Camaro as well. Real car guys recognize quality. That's about what I experienced also. I had so much fun, I'm going back next week. I should have my TapTurn by then, so I'll get to show that off on the way out. One guy had a very bright set of switchbacks on his '30s hot rod, so perhaps electrical upgrades are in fashion this year.

I plan on making up some kind of slide show about the Miata to run on a spare 7" tablet that I have. I think people would appreciate that. If anybody has any Miata fun facts that they think belong in a slide show, let me know.

They had a 50/50 raffle last week, but they drew a few other prizes as well. I bought a Gates Krikit tensioner that I'm going to donate to the raffle next time. There was a lot of belt talk, and several very noisy belts when everyone fired up at the end of the night.

... I pulled a potential replacement from what was not the world's greatest car...but a Tribute.LOLZ! Well done, sir. No one can say you aren't Tenacious.

If you keep the Bose, I strongly recommend the GTA Car Kit BlueTooth adaptor. Its a little expensive, but it transforms the stereo into something much more modern. Even topless phone calls ( ;) ) work great over the device.

I kept my Bose, because 1. I like the look of stock stereos in general. 2. Most aftermarket stereos have terrible AM reception, and I do like some talk radio from time to time. 3. No one really steals stock stereos. 4. I like the speed sensing volume control. 5. I didn't want to fight with an aftermarket stereo to get the power antenna up and down, and 6. I REALLY didn't want to fight with an aftermarket stereo to get the dimmer to work with it. Some of my concerns may not be based on reality, but I'm okay with that in this case, because I also don't think that the Bose sounds bad at all.

Looks good! What ride height did you wind up at and what spring rates are you running with the Xidas? My car is ~ 5.25" at the pinch welds with what I assume are stock springs and known stock dampers and I'm strongly considering Xidas with 700/400 rates, as I use the car for AutoX and track days. Opinion on ride quality yet and what cars you'd compare them to? I used to daily a Subaru STi, which I now drive much less than my Miata, but despite the stiff suspension describe it as bouncy and harsh compared to the Miata. If I do the Xidas, I'm kinda thinking about 4.75" front / 5.0" rear ride height.

I ended up with a 4.5" Pinch Weld height and I have been more than happy with the ride quality of the Xidas on the street. They have been really compliant and absorbed bumps really well and even my GF didn't mind riding in the car  On the track, it was a different story and these Xidas really shined, very easy to adjust and gave me a new sense of confidence pushing the car. You can't go wrong with these!

Any advice on Fumoto model/style numbers will fit on the NB oil pan would be much appreciated.

This should help you:
http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/
In addition to the convenience of draining the oil without tools, you have the peace of mind that in case you ever overfill the sump, you only need to open the little drain (ball valve) for a few seconds. The only disadvantage is it takes a little longer to drain but this is no problem considering the ease of draining - no mess, no bolts and gaskets/crush washers, etc. I've had mine on my 2001 LS for years with no clearance problems at all.

Traded a Polaris dirt bike for a 99 in decent shape...Wow. Good trade.

Today I installed LED brake lights. I like them. They are a little brighter than the incandescent bulbs they replaced, and they don't flicker likre some LED markers that I've seen.

For all the hype, I've found that very few LEDs actually are brighter than incandescents. Obviously they draw less power, and they light up quicker, but brighter has been tough to find. These may only be brighter because the bulbs I replaced were so old. The NB seems to use some of the best bulbs already.

Which LEDs did you wind up going with? With the lack of reflectors in our tails, I was totally unimpressed with the ones that I'd tried and went back to incandescents, as I felt the LEDs were unsafe. I did find an LED for the third brake light that was better than stock as far as brightness and love the instant-on bit for that one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MC6WP3A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1I went with Luyed bulbs, because I have bought from them before and I have not been disappointed yet. These are the brake lights:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01G6T49JQ/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And these are the directionals:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01G6SV94K/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The directionals were also just slightly brighter (in the daylight at least) than the incandescent bulbs. There's a catch though. They seem to use the same bulb as a single filament or a dual filament replacement. The brake lights worked just fine as markers and as brighter brakes. The directionals were only lighting with "dim" filament power at first though. I bent one of the inner contacts over to the other side, and they lit right up with full brightness. It didn't seem to matter which leg I bent over, or which polarity I plugged the bulb in either. As long as one leg was bent over, it was full bright. It seems like it corrects polarity just fine.

I should do a side by side comparison of the LEDs vs. the incandescants at night, but I'm too tired to go pull everything apart right now. I suspect that any difference noticed in the daytime will be even more noticeable at night.

I was tempted to buy the JDM ASTAR bulbs with the "EX-78 chipsets" (whatever that means), but having been pleased with Luyed in the past, I saw no reason to switch brands. I'm considering buying a set just to do a side by side comparison. But not this week.

Today I also received and installed my TapTurn module. That's how I'm able to use the LED directionals. Without it they do hyperflash.

I won't be able to use the strobe setting on public roads here in NH. Our local laws specify a flashing rate of 60-120 flashes per minute. The TapTurn cycles on and off at about 80 times each minute. The strobe effect flashes the light twice per cycle, but it does not change the speed of the cycle, so in effect it flashes about 160 times per minute. This is much faster than we are allowed, and I'm sure it would get me pulled over.

The TapTurn's primary function, tapping the signal stalk to initate a predefined number of flashes, works perfectly. The instructions say to hit the stalk until it starts the first flash. This didn't work for me. I found that the shorter the duration of the tap, the more reliably TapTurn worked.

The wigwags, and strobes are very cool, but unless I'm invited to participate in a parade, I don't think I'm going to get to use them much.

Woah! So, I had a good scare today. I had been driving around (looking for a winter car) for a few hours, and a guy behind me started shouting at me that I had no brake lights. I had installed both of the LED tail lights backwards, and that caused the 3rd brake light to malfunction. I know I checked them when I was installing them, but I had them in and out a few times, and I must have forgotten to do a final check.

Its hard to do alone, so I backed up to a glass store front (AutoZone) to see them in the reflection. Be careful out there.

I worked some more on general maintenance on my new-to-me 2003 MX-5. Have him on jack stands changing the engine oil (including leaky oil cooler gasket), 6-speed MT trans and LSD diff fluids, and accessory belts.

Purchased from a Mazda dealer with what appears to be an actual 50k miles. Looked like the previous owner took good care of the appearance issues, but may have slacked some on the mechanical issues.

Found some metal on the diff drain plug which is of concern. Will see what happens when I get him back on the road.

Very much appreciate the forum so far. Wouldn't have gotten this far so fast with the maintenance, particularly the oil cooler problem.

I spotted several Miatas over the course of 11 miles! A white ND going northbound on 521, a Sunburst Yellow sitting near the Sumter Burger King (I think that's the one with the yellow daisy wheels with back center caps), a black NB1 sitting near the local IHOP, and a dark blue-grey NC1 sitting outside Scott-Will Mazda. Oddly enough, everyone has their tops up on what's a very sunny but otherwise cool day! On mine when it put it on it was way too close to the pan and was rubbing the pan as i was tightening it, i was afraid of stripping the threads because i did screw it in quite tight. After owning this receiver for nearly 9 months and having tried a couple other mounting methods that I was never happy with, and not wanting to stick or drill anything into the permanent dash, I have finally given in to mounting the receiver on the front of the HU tray blank.

What specs did you use? I went with the FM specs when I put on my new tires. I like the handling, but its not drastically different than it was. It pulls just a little to the left. I usually don't notice it if there's any road crown. I noticed just a tiny bit more (camber) wear on the insides of the rears when I rotated them @ 6K miles. I think at the next rotation, I'll have the tires flipped on the rims so I can swap sides. Does the car need to be realigned after replacing all four shocks?

[QUOTE=KipA;8197774] did I mention that the sat receiver was free?? :O

If/when you call Sirius/XM for a subscription, ask them what their best deal is. I got a free 3-month trial with my new 2006 Element and then they started charging me per month, offering me better deals for 3-month, 6-month, etc. subscriptions. I asked them what their best deal was and they said I could buy a lifetime subscription which was good for 7 transfers if I traded vehicles. I paid a little over $300 once -- no more payments. I'm happy. Since my Element is my daily driver, I use it every day.
I don't know if they still offer this but it doesn't hurt to ask.

UPDATE:
I took the LED brake lights out, and put the incandescent bulbs back in. They must have been feeding current back through the brake light circuit, because my Cruise Control wouldn't work with these bulbs.

When I'd first tried to go LED on the tail lights, I'd found that we apparently have CK sockets?, so I'd wondered how yours were working with these bulbs. Oh well, I've been happy with just an LED 3rd brake light for now.

Never had an issue with Moss even with returning a product I wasn't happy with. It sounds like you didn't actually try to contact them directly about the issue, just filled out the survey.

It sounds like you didn't actually try to contact them directly about the issue, just filled out the survey.

Moss sent the survey asking about my transaction. I filled it out and recapped the entire situation in the additional comments section. Even offered to send pictures of the missing and damaged parts (by pictures of the missing parts I mean pictures of the assembled unit with missing end caps).

Regardless, they re-packaged and sold as new an item that had clearly been used and returned. They didn't even bother to replace the missing and damaged parts. That's inexcusable no matter what.

In the end the cart still works. It wasn't worth packaging up and sending it back. But to sell it as new is dirty pool. Then sending a survey asking about my experience "because they value my opinion", and completely ignoring it, is poor business on their part.

If I need to buy a widget, and I have the option of buying from Company A or Company B, and Company A has screwed me before, I'm buying from Company B.

You've clearly never worked in retail and have no idea how a warehouse works. Mistakes happen and most retailers will bend over backwards to make things right IF the customer just reaches out. Automated surveys are typically compiled and results are report as aggregates, not individually. In a perfect world, mistakes would never happen, but to state that any mistake is necessarily the result of shady business practice shows a distinct lack of understanding the way the world actually operates. A simple phone call would have rectified the situation, had you just made the miniscule effort.

MX-5inAR

5th October 2016, 15:43

Automated surveys are typically compiled and results are report as aggregates, not individually.

There you are wrong. At least partially so.

Yes, some of the results are delivered in aggregate, but the special notes/comments sections are not. A successful survey delivery is good. An open is better. A click better than that. A completed survey brilliant. A consumer taking the time to add information on top of that is gold. Those comments are (should be) reviewed and passed on to the appropriate person ASAP.

Today I drove a bunch, and it was loads of fun. I ran a bunch of errands first. Then I gave two different strangers rides. One for admiring my car, the other was hitchhiking. They both loved the car. Each ride was an interesting story, but too long for here. Then I took my son for burgers at the local cruise night.

When I dropped my son off, my daughter wanted to go for a ride so we drove all around after dark. I'm REALLY loving the 9011/9012 headlight upgrade. It just doesn't cease to impress me.

I'm also really digging the TapTurn more and more all the time, as I get better at remembering when and how to use it. I wish the strobe blinkers were legal here. My daughter especially loved the WigWags.

Figured out why I keep doing burnouts while trying to get up my driveway. It's steep and I try to hit it at an angle so I don't scrape. Turns out that I end up lifting one of the wheels ever so slightly. Given how the open diff works (and the torsen too), the wheel in the air spins up. So the second it touches the ground it shrieks. Oy vey.

I'm guessing the previous owner made them all red.

It looks good! I've been trying to see if it's worth it to do the NB2 taillight swap on my NB1 or if there's a way to smoke the orange to something else. Looks like buying NB2 taillight assembly's and selling my NB1 setup would make the swap pretty reasonable.

I'm starting to make a mini list of things I want to do to the car over the winter!

I had a quick glance under the seats today while fiddling with the ECU panel (first time since buying the car!) and there is LOADS of stuff under there! I'm actually pretty stoked about finding out what it all is. I just hope there isn't anything gross under there...

Saw some food wrappers, filter papers, receipts, I think maybe a CD? Hopefully its a good CD! :D

I already found a hat, a hairband, a lightning cable, a locking wheel nut for a totally different car (but not the one for this car!!), some Meguiars quick detail spray, a T-Shirt, cigarette lighters, mentos, keyrings, and even a purse in the net behind the seat (about 5 pence in change and nothing else in it)

I (mostly) finished up my interior renovation, changing from black/tan to red/black. It's been about 3 weeks on this project.

New black carpet
Sound dampening/heat barrier throughout cabin
Center console delete
Custom dashboard chop
Covered dash to match door cards
Red LEDs in the instruments

Putting it all back together.

Unfortunately, night time pictures leave a lot to be desired. I'll take more pics tomorrow.

One of my goals was to make the car feel roomier. Mission accomplished. It feels much larger inside when your knee isn't hitting the center console.

Red lights!

To do:
- I still need to mount the window switches. I've gone back and forth on what style switch to use and where to mount them. So, for now, they're just laying on the trans tunnel.
- The paint on the radio bezel is still too fresh to mount it. That'll happen tomorrow.
- I haven't done the full sound system installation. Amplifier, subwoofer and component door speaker. I might just take it to work and have my installer do it to save myself the work.

Had a bit of excitement yesterday. I got the header bolts off and used a ton of PB Blaster to get them to cooperate. Let the car sit overnight and then drove it to school the next day.

Hood started SMOKING!

Haha, guess the PB blaster didn't like the heat. I had to park on the side of the parking lot to fan the hood a bit. There wasn't anything wrong with it and I knew what was happening. I just didn't want to scare anyone!

Lol! Yeah, I bet a whole bunch of PB Blaster on your engine would smoke like a chimney.

You sound almost like Mike Brewer (of Wheeler Dealers -or whatever the show is called on your side of the pond- fame)

Wheeler Dealers is the best car show for me. I get it on the Velocity network. It's entertaining and educational. I've saved nearly all of the episodes and watched them over and over because I always learn something new. However, it seems like the newer episodes seem to skim over the technical parts of the repairs and focus on the surface stuff.

Yeah, that's my impression as well. They are more interested in appearance than mechanical stuff. I'd love to be able to work as fast as Edd China, that guy strips a car for painting in minutes

My favorite car show was Mark Evens A (xxx) is born on the Beeb. He would take 12-15 weekly episodes to build, rebuild or restore some cool car, truck, plane or helicopter.

Have you guys seen the Amphicar episode? I loved how they showed the details of the meticulous metal work they had to do.

Today I drove my NB. On Tuesday I changed the oil, oil filter, spark plugs, trans fluid, and diff fluid. So much fun to drive and it idles much better. Not as rough.

Today I replaced the rear o2 sensor and got the blasted cel to stay off on the post work test drive. Even fixing small things on the car makes me feel good.

I put on the crank seal with an FM tool. Bolt was tightened to press it on to the point the crankshaft started to turn. Did this for cam seals as well. It seems it doesn't push in enough. FSM says 0.5mm-1.0mm in from oil pump surface. What do you guys think?
